Steph is a media professional with a penchant for the weird.

Steph is a writer, editor, astrologer, and consultant based in Los Angeles, California. She began her editorial career working for independent publishers like Thought Catalog (where she fell in love with discovering and fostering new talent) and later, Gawker Media (where she learned to tell award-winning brand stories that didn't suck).

In 2013, she discovered the publishing platform Medium and created Human Parts: a publication for raw, experimental, honest, and personal stories about what it means to be... well, human. In her time partnering with the platform, she found that her values — freedom, curiosity, independence, connection, and creativity — aligned well with Medium’s mission, and she officially joined the team as a curator in 2016. Her role quickly evolved as she was tasked with pioneering scaleable support programs for writers, like this one. Her time at Medium provided her with ample mentorship opportunities, and the connections she fostered there are among her proudest achievements. Steph continued to act as editor-in-chief of Human Parts until her departure from Medium in April 2021.

Today, Steph is using her vision, enthusiasm, and decade-plus experience in digital media to consult publishers and brands on new editorial initiatives, content development, and talent support. She also consults on book proposals and manuscripts and offers one-on-one coaching to writers and other creative people.

Steph's own writing has appeared in TIME, The Guardian, Cosmopolitan, Broadly, Teen Vogue, Refinery 29, MEL, Paper Magazine, Gizmodo, GEN, Human Parts, McSweeney’s Internet Tendency, and others. She's also the author of the best-selling Kindle Single, Some Things I Did for Money.

Steph continues to publish her own writing when the mood strikes; subscribe here to be notified when it does. You can also find her on Instagram, Medium, and Spotify (but not Twitter; Twitter makes her angry).

When Steph isn't working with words, she works with symbols as a practicing astrologer. Steph is fascinated by the universal archetypes, natural cycles, and other invisible forces that permeate our lives. She believes that, by decoding and collaborating with life’s natural cycles, we can start to feel, love, and live better.

In her downtime, Steph makes music under the moniker Impossible Windows. Check out her first album, Social Annulment, on BandCamp.
